Meet our featured lady of the month!
Sara Fletcher
Road: Category 2
Cyclocross: Category A
Sara loves to race her bike because: She loves the challenge of bike racing. And, she loves being in great shape from training and racing. But most of all, being with other people and developing friendships is what she loves most about it. The encouragement and teamwork is the greatest thing about this sport – she needs her teammates, especially when the training is excruciating or during a race when she doesn’t feel like being aggressive or working hard. She would not ride as hard or as dedicated if it were not for her team.
A little known fact about Sara is: She can’t blow snot rockets! That’s exciting for all of us!
Some major accomplishments on and off the bike last year were: Sara won 2 road races and upgraded to Cat 2! She visited family almost once a month and was/still am more intentional in those relationships. She also ran her first running race and came in 8th place.
Sara went backpacking for the first time and that’s all she can think of right now…(but that sounds like a whole heck of a lot to us).
A few of Sara’s top results/accomplishments on the bike in 2011 were: She would say my favorite is my solo win in the Cherry Blossom Stage 4 Road Race in April. Second is tying with her teammate Jess for 1st place in the Banana Belt series because of their awesome teamwork! Another highlight was coming in 3rd at Kings Valley RR right after getting her Cat 2 upgrade! She enjoyed the challenge of the Mt. Hood Classic and getting to race beside (and get dropped by) world champions. Sara placed 4th place for the Oregon Cup. She also had a great cyclocross season, felt strong, and had a few solid races for her first Cat A season.
Sara’s goals for 2012 include: Train smart. Place well in a few of the big Oregon road races. Race decently in the Tour of Walla Walla. Do not burn out and DNF at Mt. Tabor Race 6. In other words, she’d still like to be strong in July. Go mountain biking more.
If Sara were an animal she would be: A seagull. Sometimes she wants to fly all over and be social!
